Basketball
December 2009
For this piece I recorded someone bouncing a basketball and shooting hoops at an outdoor basketball court. I had her shuffle her feet and walk around to get footsteps and fast feet. After several attempts I was able to get quality recordings of the milk being thrown and the paper bag dropping. Using ambient recordings of a playground and on a street corner, I was able to separate the two scenes. Mixing in ProTools was very helpful because I used 8 tracks. I had a lot of fun syncing the sounds and finding the tone of the piece. |
Dollars Animation
November 2009
The challenge for this piece was to pick a tone. I changed the pitch of most of my pieces and the EQ to a higher gain of the high frequencies. I brought a bunch of children’s toys into the sound booth studio and recorded them using a SM58 mic. With the proper distance and level input, I was able to record some terrific sounds. |
Bacon Steak Video
November 2009
For the opening scene with the guy licking the meat I recorded lips smacking. Rubbing water on glass creates the perfect squeaky sound needed for a dry erase board. I recorded myself using kitchen scissors, and in ProTools I changed the pitch and then I reversed the sound. Lastly, I recorded frozen fruit in the blender at a lot of speeds and lengths. Finally I synced the sound effects with each movement. |
Beach & Restaurant Soundscape
November 2009
This is a scene that starts out with a person standing by the ocean. You can hear the footsteps in the sand as they walk up to an outdoor restaurant. Gradually the waves drown out by the restaurant atmosphere. The challenge for this piece was recording. I used the built in stereo mics on the Zoom H4n recorder. Because of all the exterior sounds it was hard to isolate the footsteps from the waves or the outdoor restuarant from the waves. Within ProTools, I used the EQ plugin to change the prospective of each sound when the person was near or far from the different elements. |

Audio Production Radio is a unique and challenging field. Mixing interviews with only audio gives the audience a new way of perceiving characters. I hope to give real representation of my characters through their genuine voices and audio demeanor. Click on the titles below to view examples. |
MultiVisions
May 2008
As a Telecommunications student, I worked on an eight-minute radio piece covering MultiVisions a media showcase competition. During this project I recorded sound using a Marantz field recorder and directly into ProTools editing software. I mixed four interviews, three versions of looped music, background sound of an event, and a PSA in the middle. I completed the editing within two days. This project turned into a promotion radio piece for the event heard on the Indiana University Radio Station.
